Privacy Policy

Terrace is a football app for fans. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. In short: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

Who we are

Terrace is run by Billy Meli, an independent developer based in the United States ("we", "us"). We decide how your personal data is used, which makes us its controller under data protection laws such as the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at contact@terracesports.app.

What we collect

Your account

You sign in with Apple. Apple gives us an identifier for your account and, if you choose to share it, your email address (which may be a private relay address). You choose a username, the club you support and a squad number, which other fans can see. You can browse Terrace as a guest without an account.

What you post

Posts, comments, votes, reactions, poll answers, score predictions, Predictor League memberships, connections with other fans, watch parties you host or join, reports you make and fans you block. Posts and comments are public to other Terrace users and can be shared as links on the web.

Your location (only if you join the Near You map)

Terrace asks for your location only while you're using the app, never in the background. Location is checked when you open Near You or tap Find Me. If you join the map, your pin is snapped to an area of about 1 km before it's saved, so no one, including us, stores your exact position. If you choose to be shown at home, your exact home spot stays on your device and only the blurred area is saved. Your pin is visible only to signed-in fans who share their location too, stops showing after 30 days without a visit, and is deleted as soon as you leave the map. If you say which live game you're watching, that's shown with your pin until the game ends.

Notifications

If you turn on alerts, we store your device's push token with the clubs, games and alert types you chose, so we can send goals, kick-offs, results and Predictor reminders. Live Activities on your Lock Screen use a similar token for the game they follow.

The Gaffer (Terrace's AI assistant)

When you use AI features, such as asking Terrace a question, Catch Me Up, the Smart Composer, tone checks before posting, or lineup and score predictions, the text you write and the football information needed to answer are sent to Anthropic, which runs the Claude models that power them. We count how many AI requests you make each day so we can keep the service fair, and we may briefly keep answers to shared questions (such as a match's predicted lineup) so they load faster. Anthropic doesn't use what we send it to train its models.

What The Gaffer remembers

After you chat with The Gaffer, it keeps a few short notes about you so it can pick up where you left off: for example your club, players you rate, predictions you've made and how you like your answers. These notes are written automatically from your chats, are only used in your own conversations, and never include contact details, health, money, relationships or other personal matters. You can see them, switch remembering off, or wipe them at any time from the brain button on The Gaffer screen.

The Gaffer's notebook

Twice a day, The Gaffer reads the most popular public posts and replies, and how fans voted in debates, to keep a notebook on what the community is talking about: running jokes, nicknames and how each club's fans are feeling. The notebook describes the community as a whole. It never includes usernames, never quotes individual fans, and leaves out anything removed or reported.

Purchases

Terrace Pro and in-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details; Apple tells us which purchases are active on your account so we can unlock them.

The waitlist and creator requests

If you join the waitlist or apply to be a Founding Creator on our website, we keep what you give us (such as your email address, club, name and channel details) to reply to you and let you know when Terrace is ready. Every email we send has a link to unsubscribe.

Voice

If you speak a question to Terrace, your voice is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your device when it supports it. We never receive recordings of your voice, only the text you choose to send.

How you use Terrace

To understand what fans use and fix what isn't working, the app records simple usage events in our own database: for example that a screen was opened, a prediction was made, a question was asked to The Gaffer, or something was shared, along with the app version, iOS version and device model, and how smoothly screens scrolled on test builds. Each event carries a random ID created for your install and, when you're signed in, your account. Events don't include the words you write, your location or your contacts. We use them only in summaries, and only within Terrace.

Video highlights (YouTube)

Match highlights and interviews in Terrace are official videos from YouTube, shown in YouTube's own embedded player and found using the YouTube API Services. By watching them in Terrace you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. When a video loads or plays, YouTube and Google may collect information about your device and how you watch, under the Google Privacy Policy; that happens between you and YouTube, and we don't receive it. To pick a version of a video that plays where you are, the app sends our server the region set on your device (for example "US"), never your location. We don't send YouTube or Google your account details or anything else about you. To find where each goal happens in a highlights video, our server shares the public video's link with Google's Gemini service, with no information about you.

On your device

The clubs, leagues and players you follow and your app settings are stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account so they match on your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Widgets read a copy shared within the app on your device.

What we don't do

Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run Terrace, and they handle data only to provide their service to us:

Football data such as fixtures, scores, lineups and statistics comes from API-Football, and lists of match videos from Highlightly and YouTube. We don't send them your personal data. YouTube's own handling of data when you watch a video is covered in the "Video highlights" section above. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect fans from harm.

Why we use your data (UK, EEA and similar laws)

Where laws like the GDPR apply, we rely on these legal bases:

We don't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects using automated means alone.

Where your data is stored

Terrace is run from the United States, and our service providers store and process data there. If you're in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, your data is transferred to the US under safeguards approved for these transfers, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) where a provider is certified, and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum) in our agreements with providers. You can ask us for more detail.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and what you post until you delete them. Your map pin is deleted when you leave the map and stops showing after 30 days without a visit. Push tokens belong to your device rather than your account, so alerts keep working as a guest; they're removed when Apple tells us they've stopped working, for example after you delete the app. When you delete your account, the token is unlinked from it. What The Gaffer remembers is kept until you wipe it or delete your account, and its community notebook is kept for about a month. Waitlist and creator request details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Reports may be kept for as long as needed to keep the community safe.

Your choices and rights

If you're in the UK, the EEA or another country with similar laws, you also have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to how we use it (including anything based on our legitimate interests), receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. We'll reply within one month. You can also complain to your data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK or the authority in your EU country, though we'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.

If you're in a US state with a privacy law, such as California, you have similar rights to know, correct and delete your data. We don't sell personal data or share it for targeted advertising, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights.

Age

Terrace is for people aged 16 and over. If you believe someone younger has an account, please let us know and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
