Matchweek 6Matchweek 9 preview
Betis host leaders Barcelona in Seville showdown
Madrid and Atletico chase the pace
Atletico Madrid (2nd, 19 pts, form WWWWL) visit Espanyol (12th, 8 pts, form DLLWD) on Saturday, with Koke out for personal reasons. Real Madrid (4th, 18 pts, form WLWWL) host Sevilla (5th, 14 pts, form DLWWD) on Sunday, with only four points separating the sides.
Vinicius Jr has been handed a four-game ban for his red card against Villarreal and will miss the Clasico, so Madrid's attacking options are worth watching.
Relegation fight bites
Valencia (19th, 5 pts, form DLWLL) host Athletic Club (10th, 8 pts, form DDWW) on Saturday and have six players out, among them Canos, Copete and Sadiq. Athletic are also short, without Sancet, Williams and Egiluz.
Levante (17th, 6 pts) visit Deportivo La Coruna (8th, 10 pts) on Friday, Elche (18th, 6 pts) go to Villarreal (11th, 8 pts) on Saturday, and bottom side Malaga (20th, 4 pts) host Real Sociedad (6th, 13 pts) on Sunday.
Tight midtable scrap
Osasuna (16th, 8 pts, form LDLLL) host Racing Santander (15th, 8 pts, form DLLWL) on Sunday, with both level on points in the drop zone's shadow. Celta Vigo (9th, 8 pts) welcome Alaves (7th, 11 pts) the same day.
Getafe (14th, 8 pts) and Rayo Vallecano (13th, 8 pts) close the weekend on Monday, level on points.

Matchweek 8 recap
Barcelona stay top as Levante and Sevilla thrill
Barcelona hold the summit
The leaders did not change. Barcelona made light work of Getafe, with A. Gordon scoring on 2', Gabriel Jesus on 30' and J. Kounde on 73' in a 3-0 win. That keeps them first on 24 points, five clear of Atletico Madrid.
Atletico stay second on 19 points after beating Alaves 2-1. Alejandro Grimaldo scored on 33' and Cristian Romero got the winner on 87'. L. Boye scored a penalty on 45', and Alaves had Ángel Pérez sent off on 61'.
Real Betis are third, also on 19 points, and Real Madrid are fourth on 18. Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0 through Y. Diomande's goal on 62', but Vinícius Júnior was sent off on 72'.
Goals galore and late drama
Betis hammered Osasuna 5-2. Isco scored twice, including a penalty on 10', and A. Ezzalzouli and J. Morante also scored. A. Budimir's own goal on 48' counted for Betis. Osasuna fell three places to 16th.
Real Sociedad beat Deportivo La Coruna 3-2 in a game with five goals and two red cards. Pablo Marín was sent off on 66' and Lorenzo Amatucci on 90'. Sociedad climbed two places to sixth on 13 points, while Deportivo dropped one to eighth on 10.
Levante 3-3 Sevilla was the pick of the lot. There were three goals in stoppage time, at 90+2', 90+5' and 90+10', and Isaac Romero was sent off on 90'. Sevilla stay fifth on 13 points.
Trouble at the bottom
Malaga remain bottom on 4 points. They drew 1-1 with Espanyol, with A. Nino scoring on 90' to answer Bryan Zaragoza's goal on 13'. Espanyol rose three places to 12th.
Valencia are 19th and Levante 18th, both on 5 points. Valencia drew 2-2 at Racing Santander, and Levante's draw with Sevilla keeps them just above them. Elche are 17th on 6 points after a 0-0 draw with Celta Vigo.
That goalless draw still helped Celta, who climbed five places to ninth.
